2017 Spring Grand Sumo Tournament was held at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium (alias: Edion Arena Osaka) . On the 14th day, there was a match of Ozeki Terunofuji vs. Sekiwake (the Junior champion) Kotoshogiku. Terunofuji beat Kotoshogiku by “Hatakikomi” that means “Slapping down”. Then Terunofuji was 13 wins and 1 loss, but Kotoshogiku who was demoted from the Ozeki couldn’t got 10 wins or more, so he is not promoted to Ozeki again.

On the 15th day, there was a match of Yokozuna Kisenosato vs. Terunofuji. Because Kisenosato got hurt on left shoulder in a match of 13th day so he was not in original physical condition, but Kisenosato beat Terunofuji by “Tsukiotoshi” that means “Thrusting down”. Then both stats was 13 wins and a championship match was held. Kisenosato beat Terunofuji again this time, so Kisenosato won the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament.

Terunofuji’s biography is his age of 25, he was born at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. When he traveled to Japan with his mother, he happily told a people of stable and watched the practice of sumo. He was fascinated by the world of sumo wrestling, so he went to study abroad and practiced sumo at Tottori Johoku High School where Ichinojo, Takanoiwa and Ishiura also went.

In 2010, he joined the stable of Magaki and was named stage name to Wakamisho. He got off to a good start and passes all the stages at one place until Makushita division. In 2013, he moved to Isegahama stable and changed stage name to Terunofuji.

Terunofuji became the Jyuryo (the second division wrestler) in 2013 Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament, and won in the division. So he became the Maegashira (the top division wrestler) in next year. He won steadily in Makuuchi division and became the Sekiwake (the Junior champion) in February 2015.

In 2015 Spring Grand Sumo Tournament, his stats was 13 wins and 2 losses. So Terunofuji got the Outstanding performance prize and the Fighting spirit prize. In next tournament, his stats was 12 wins and 3 losses, he won the tournament first time. Then he was promote to the Ozeki after the tournament.

But Terunofuji got injured on his knee in 2015 Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament. Because of this injury, he repeated more wins than losses and more losses than wins for each tournament. Especially, Terunofuji lost 13 consecutive matches in may 2016 Grand Sumo Tournament, it is the worst record of Ozeki. Also the results of the previous tournament was 4 wins and 11 losses.

Why was Terunofuji a good result in the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament? He is on good condition of his knees and he could practice every day before the Tournament. This is most important factor. Originally, because his father failed to start a business, he is working hard to support households. So he got greed to be promote to Yokozuna that like Kisenosato.

This youtube’s video is the movie that Terunofuji was promote to Ozeki. Then Terunofuji is not married yet and he is still single (Seems to have a Mongolian girlfriend). So his next goal is to find a good wife and to be promote to Yokozuna.
